Our story has God's fingerprints all over it. Seth and Kalie grew up hundreds of miles apart in different states yet came to the same small town in Oklahoma where Kalie’s grandparents were and where Seth grew up. They never met there, but wonder if they ever ran into each other in lines for the rides at the Kiddie park. One weekend in the fall of 2018, Kalie’s dad asked her if she had met a guy named Seth with red hair at Houston’s First Baptist Church. Kalie had not and figured he was in a different Sunday school class. Kalie had just finished her fieldwork rotation on November 16, 2018 and on her way back, she asked her dad if she could see his new office building on her way home. Seth moved to Houston for work after college and began working for Kalie’s dad. When Kalie came to the office to visit, Seth was there and they formally met. However, it was very brief and didn’t get to say much to each other, just hi and bye. Over the next year and a half, Seth and Kalie would greet each other at church, but no deeper conversations. Seth was transferred to a new city in June 2020 and because of COVID, he could not have a celebration at work for his last day. Kalie’s parents offered to take him to dinner the week he was moving and invited Kalie to come if “she didn’t think it was weird”. Kalie thought to herself she would go only if it was a restaurant she liked. Well, to her luck, it was to Churrascos where she loves the plantain chips. They had a great time and even took a picture! The picture was the avenue for them to exchange phone numbers and then the texting began! The next month, they both attended the same wedding and talked the entire reception. They went on their first date the next day for seafood and pie! As we walk through a season of engagement and then marriage, we are seeking to keep the Lord at the center of our relationship. He is a kind and gracious Father and we are so blessed to know Him.
